Runaways

Runaways cover art

Set in the main Marvel Universe (Earth-616), every year a group of teenagers get dragged along to an annual “charity event” with their parents. One year, they decide to spy on their parents, discovering their (super) villain inheritance. The kids immediately plan their escape. On the way out, they gather their parents’ weapons and resources.

This is an interesting take on what happens to innocent bystanders in a super-hero universe. It identifies with that inner angsty teen we all had that wanted nothing more than super powers. The series was so popular that even after its cancellation Marvel picked it back up because of the trade sales.

Saga

Saga cover art

Both sides of an intergalactic-war are threatened when two soldiers from opposing factions fall in love. The politics and propaganda surrounding the war force Alana nor Marko to continually be on the run. Neither can return to their home worlds for fear of capture. They will travel to the ends of the galaxy and do whatever it takes to protect their offspring.

This epic sci-fi/fantasy space-opera has raised the bar for comic book storytelling. The art is incredibly breathtaking. And you’ll fall in love with the most bizarre characters and love every minute of it.

We recommend getting several volumes. Once you start reading this series, you won’t want to put it down. It’s that good.
